There are some people out there who hate traveling for work. They'd rather stay in their cubicle and continue their trademark agent Canada assignments in a comfortable place. Then there are those that enjoy traveling for work. They like the opportunity of being able to travel, be it out of the city or country, and take in some places they'd never consider visiting if their Dunlop Thermo job didn't provide them with the chance to do so. Whether you're traveling for work and you like it or you don't like it there is one thing all people traveling for work have in common.

That commonality is travel expenses. Companies, be they heatshrink sleeving plants or sports organizations, don't expect you to pay your own way while traveling for them. They know it can be expensive to travel, especially if you travel abroad, and want to make sure you aren't going broke doing company work. Whether you're work travel takes to you a conference, board meeting, or business sales meeting, you need to make sure that you keep all your business related receipts and paperwork.

Travel expenses include airfare or bus tickets, lodging accommodations and food, just to name a few. Some companies will pay for your expenses such as your hotel or plane ticket before you leave and just ask you to keep all your dining receipts and taxi cab receipts to hand to them when you get back from your travels. Usually you'll be given a certain budget to spend on breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you stay under that number you'll be reimbursed every penny. If you go over that amount you'll have to make up the difference on your own. Businesses appreciate you going on the road for them but they don't want to be taken advantage of. So don't go out renting limousine or vacuum truck services to drive you around town when you can just take a cab.

Your best bet is to spend as if you were spending your own money, not that of your cosmetic dentist Scarborough boss. Travel expenses can add up pretty quickly so don't go blowing your travel budget on things you don't need. Like a pedicure at a fancy spa, a $10 coffee that you can get for a couple of bucks at a cheaper coffee shop, or those ridiculously expensive macadamia nuts from the mini-fridge in your hotel room. If you stick to the basics of food, travel, and lodgings, you'll be fine and not face the wrath of your boss once you get home. No matter how much money you saved them or how many deals you closed for them during your travels they won't be happy to see that you spent an unnecessary amount of money during your travels.
